Generation of websites for Oxford University MSD within short timescales.

Challenge

Oxford University Medical Sciences Division makes up about a quarter of the University. The web-team runs more than a hundred separate websites all based on the Open Source Plone CMS. With these kinds of volumes the server platform needs to be scalable, fast and robust.

The system as it stood was reaching capacity and the web team recognised they needed outside expertise to help them deliver a platform that was more scaleable, more robust, and faster.

Solution

fry's Systems and CMS experts went to Oxford to investigate and audit the current system. Working with the MSD systems support, they advised on (and assisted with) the configuration of new servers to ensure that the hosting of current and future sites was robust, stable. The new setup ensured that sites could be added to the system with the minimum of disruption.

Result

Oxford University MSD now has a stable system that handles the current load and is scalable.
